Our approach
Good comparisons show their work.
What makes the shortlist
We start with a concrete everyday decision and identify options with accessible official information. This first edition covers two checking accounts and two budgeting apps. It is not exhaustive. Inclusion is not a recommendation or evidence of approval.
How to read the comparisons
There are no star ratings or paid rankings. Editorial order groups banking before budgeting and does not mean best to worst. Compare costs, practical access and limitations for your own needs. Sorting by annual base cost excludes taxes, optional fees and unknown prices; unknown prices appear last.
What we verify
Product statements link to dated primary sources. We distinguish provider facts, original arithmetic and hypothetical scenarios. Current offer amounts that we cannot establish stay unresolved. Our research is not firsthand testing, an eligibility check or personalized financial advice.
How the math works
Loan payments use a fixed monthly amortization model and the note interest rate. A withheld fee reduces cash received; it is not added to principal. Savings converts APY to an equivalent monthly rate and adds deposits at month end. Rewards compares flat-rate cash back after an annual fee with a no-fee baseline. Inputs and limits are visible; estimates do not replace provider disclosures.
Corrections and review
Each fieldnote and product carries a checked date. Recheck primary terms before acting. Publication releases require a current factual review. A future correction should identify the changed statement, its source and the date; we do not silently describe old terms as current.
